Jakes

JAKES Program JAKES is dedicated to informing, educating and involving America's youth in wildlife conservation and the wise stewardship of our natural resources. One of the most exciting programs at the National Wild Turkey Federation focuses on young people. JAKES (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics, and Sportsmanship) is dedicated to informing, educating and involving America's youth in wildlife conservation and the wise stewardship of our natural resources. With the growing number of turkey hunters, the JAKES program is also designed to help pass on the traditions of hunting with a strong eye toward ethics and safety. Increasing numbers of young people are learning to hunt without the benefits of an older mentor. To help address this situation, the NWTF has strengthened its commitment to the JAKES program.

Viewing our natural world through the eyes of a child will bring fresh, new appreciation for why we are so dedicated to conserving our natural resources. The spirit of conservation and the tradition of hunting have been passed from one generation to another in this country for centuries. The NWTF JAKES program will help keep this legacy alive as we continue to educate our youth.

JAKES Conservation Field Days

The Porter Wagoner/JAKES National Field DaysThe Porter Wagoner/JAKES National Field Days event attracts young people from all around the nation to come together and experience the outdoors for one weekend each year. Held at Hickory Knob State Park in South Carolina, the national event offers young people the chance to learn about camping, fishing, conservation, turkey calling, shooting, muzzle loading, archery and other exciting facets of the outdoors. They also get the chance to meet young people like themselves from across the country who share in their interest in the outdoors and conservation. You won't want to miss out on the 2000 event, which will be held June 15-18. To learn how you and your child can share in this exciting weekend call 1-800-THE-NWTF.

Like the national event, JAKES Conservation Field Days Events are held around the country to introduce children to the great outdoors and the thrill of outdoor sports. JAKES field days are sponsored by local chapters of the National Wild Turkey Federation. Through fun and exciting hands-on projects, JAKES learn the importance of natural resource conservation and important outdoor skills. All youths 17 years and younger are invited to attend a JAKES Conservation Field Days Event in their area.
